Modifier Madness – A history of modifiers and a discussion on the guidelines for appropriate use of common modifiers, including 25, 57, 59 and the new X modifiers.
Don’t take a Detour when Coding Diversion and Bypass Surgery – We will be discussing the surgical procedures and coding(ICD-10 and CPT) of diversions and bypasses: cystectomy with creation of an ileal conduit and a colon resection with creation of a colostomy.
Ann Rees has nearly 40 years of experience in the Health Information Management field. She discovered early in her career that she has a love for coding and education. She has served as an adjunct faculty member and now serves on the HIM Advisory Council for Phoenix College. Ann holds a RHIA, CCS, and CHC. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Weber State University. Ann also serves as the Chairman of the AzHIMA Fundraising committee. In her spare time Ann enjoys gardening and hiking with her dogs and shopping for antiques. She also loves to do historical research on Jerome, AZ, where she resides. Ann has co-authored a book on the Jerome Cemeteries and has written the Jerome Historical Society’s Ghostwalk script for the past 3 years.
Crystal Champaigne is a Certified Coding Specialist who works as a Remote Outpatient Coder for Peak Heath Solutions for an acute care hospital. Crystal believes that ensuring accuracy in coding not only provides excellent patient service to those who visit the facility but also helps the hospital obtain quick and accurate billing. Crystal holds an Associate of Science Degree in Health Information Management from Intellitec Medical Institute where she was awarded “Top Student” in her class and maintained a 4.0 GPA while working full time. Crystal is currently working toward her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from Southern New Hampshire University and was selected to be a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success. She has a love of learning and of sharing what she has learned with those around her. Crystal is also a member of AHIMA and an active member of AzHIMA where she is the Coding Roudtable Coordinator. In her spare time, Crystal enjoys long road trips where she and her husband, Doug, look for and find micro-breweries, to sample the local flavor.
